This page explains how to delete your GhostChat account and everything stored with it. It applies to the GhostChat web app at app.ghostchat.dev and to the GhostChat mobile app. GhostChat is operated by The Chat Widget LLC.
1How to delete your account
- Sign in at app.ghostchat.dev, or open the GhostChat mobile app and sign in.
- Go to Settings, then scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom of the page.
- Select Delete account.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone. There is no grace period and no way for us to restore a deleted account.
Only the account owner can delete an account. If you were invited to a workspace as a team member, ask the account owner to remove you, or contact us using the address below.
2What gets deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes all of the following from our database:
- Your account profile — email address, name, and password
- All websites you added, along with their widget settings
- All conversations and chat messages, including any uploaded images
- All saved contacts — visitor names, email addresses, phone numbers, and notes
- All canned responses and AI knowledge base entries
- All team members you invited
- All push notification subscriptions
If you have an active paid subscription, it is cancelled as part of the deletion so you are not billed again.
3What is retained, and for how long
- Billing records. Payments are processed by Stripe, which retains invoices and transaction records to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations. These are held by Stripe under its own retention policy and are not deleted when you delete your GhostChat account.
- Server logs. Request logs are kept for up to 3 days, then discarded automatically.
- Aggregate usage metrics. Anonymous, aggregated counts that are not linked to you or your account are kept for approximately 3 months.
- Email delivery failure records. If a notification email to your address failed to send, a diagnostic record containing that email address, a timestamp, and the error is kept for troubleshooting. Email us if you would like this removed.
4Deleting only some of your data
You do not have to delete your whole GhostChat account to remove data. Sign in at app.ghostchat.dev or in the GhostChat mobile app, then:
- Delete a single conversation. Open Conversations, select the conversation, and choose Delete. This permanently removes that conversation and every message and image in it.
- Delete a contact. Open Contacts, select the contact, and choose Delete. This permanently removes their stored name, email address, phone number, and notes. Their past conversations remain — delete those separately if you want them gone too.
- Delete a website. Open Sites, select the site, and choose Delete. This moves the site to Trash, where you can still restore it. To erase it for good, open Trash and choose Delete permanently — this removes the site, its widget settings, its AI knowledge base entries, and all of its conversations and messages.
Deleting a conversation or a contact takes effect immediately and cannot be undone. A deleted site stays in Trash until you delete it permanently. In every case your account and all other data are untouched. The retention described in section 3 above applies here too: billing records held by Stripe, server logs kept for up to 3 days, and anonymous aggregate metrics kept for approximately 3 months.
